Bon Iver have released their new SABLE, EP. With the release, theyâve shared new music videos for âThings Behind Things Behind Thingsâ and âAwards Season.â Both of the moody, black-and-white visuals were directed by Erinn Springer, who also helmed the visual for âS P E Y S I D E.â Justin Vernon, once again, stars in the new clips; check those out below.
SABLE, is Bon Iverâs first new record in over five yearsâand their first EP since 2009. Vernon wrote the autobiographical triptych at different points in his life: âThings Behind Things Behind Thingsâ dates back to 2020, while in a period of creative uncertainty; he penned âS P E Y S I D Eâ the following year, in Key West, during a moment of clarity following extensive anxiety; and âAwards Season,â which contains a sample of Phil Cook and Amelia Meathâs âMiles Away,â was conceived during long walks around Minneapolisâ Lake of the Isles in 2023.
Vernon produced SABLE, with Jim-E Stack. They recorded the EP at Vernonâs April Base studio in Wisconsin. SABLE, features contributions from pedal steel player Greg Leisz, multi-instrumentalist Michael Lewis, trumpeter Trever Hagen, synthesizer player Eli Teplin, arranger and string instrumentalist Rob Moose, and others.
Since releasing 2019âs i,i, Bon Iver issued a handful of singles such as âPDLIF,â âAUATC,â âSecond Nature,â âSo Unimportant,â with Ethan Gruska, and, with the National, âWeird Goodbyes.â Vernon also featured on Taylor Swiftâs âExileâ and âEvermoreâ and the Japanese Houseâs âDionne.â Last year, Bon Iver joined Zach Bryan on âBoys of Faith.â
